MY PERSONAL STORY

For over 16 years I struggled with my weight and self-esteem. I didn’t know at the time HOW TO STOP OVEREATING AND OVERDRINKING - I just thought it was the easiest and quickest way to run away from my life!

I lived in a mind and body that thought there was nowhere else to go but make myself feel really crap about everything by continuing the binge cycle of drinking too much, too often to feel more confident - then waking up with a hangover and feeling worse – only to think ‘my God, I need another drink to feel better’.

Apparently I wasn’t alone! When I wrote The Drink Less Mind book, the media picked up on it ‘Big Style’. WHO IS THE DRINKLESS PROGRAMME FOR?

This programme is not for alcoholics (although many alcoholics have said they think the programme is brilliant at helping them to cope without drinking at all). We are a culture of drinkers, (which I kindly support!) However, sometimes we use alcohol as an emotional crutch that leads us down the slippery slope of another drink to forget, to forgive, to give love and make love.

I believe that alcohol is the symptom not the cause of over-drinking and that the desire to drink more than we would like to is an emotional habit. An emotional habit that can be unlearned!

Over-drinking heralds low self-worth, shyness, fear of sexual intimacy and social anxieties, just to name a few, leading the culprit to the secret reasons why we drink when we know it truly isn’t helping our health and emotional well-being.

I believe that social shyness and anxiety are major players when it comes to drinking too much; this includes people from all walks of life who simply don’t believe they can relax enough without having ‘that’ drink. There are others who feel they are not intelligent enough or funny enough unless they have that drink. There are also those who feel that they need a ‘good luck’ charm swig of whatever in order to be intimate, in the false belief that it will calm their nerves and, of course, it does and this is when it becomes an emotional habit.

Remember: this programme is about learning how to confidently drink less so that you can enjoy drinking when you want to, rather than ‘having to’ without guilt, anxiety and fear. This programme is a self-esteem course too, where you are learning how to de-stress without a glass in your hand!
